Insider Says Islam Makhachev Has No Choice After Michael Chandler Leaks Dana White Offer – ‘Tsarukyan Is Suspended’

While many people seem skeptical about this, a certain UFC Hall of Famer has a different take on the situation. He believes that Chandler’s claim might have a grain of truth to it.

Until Conor McGregor is fully healed and ready to return, Dana White declines to comment on the status of his return. Therefore, the insider said there is not much for Michael Chandler other than fighting for the title. But why? Well, Islam Makhachev may not have a choice.

Michael Chandler is the only possible option for Islam Makhachev

After Michael Chandler dropped his claims that he was offered a title shot, it was understandable that most people would object as his recent track record doesn’t support his claims of a title shot. He and Conor McGregor have similar records, so it was understandable that he was chosen to face the UFC’s first-ever simultaneous dual-weight champion. However, Chael Sonnen has stated that Chandler may very well be the only option for Islam Makhachev, who wants to fight one more time this year.

Chael Sonnen said on his YouTube channel, “A number of people resist it. Islam itself resists it. But I like the idea. I like it from several angles, namely: If not Michael Chandler, who?” Now if you’re wondering why he’s the only option for the defending champion, well, it’s because some of the top contenders like Justin Gaethje And Max Holloway have their work cut out for them. While the former lost, the latter is looking to fight for the featherweight belt. In addition, Arman Tsarukyan was also suspended for punching a fan at UFC 300.

Therefore, the only logical explanation here is that Chandler might be in contention for a title. “Given that Gaethje lost… Max Holloway is actually the number one contender but chose to cash in on that golden ticket by moving down a weight class… Tsarukyan is suspended… Gamrot has already fought… Charles Oliveira doesn’t want to make the fight. If you start thinking about it, you’re like, yeah, for sure, it’s Chandler.” Chael Sonnen added.

However, if the title fight against Islam Makhachev doesn’t work out, what will Michael Chandler’s plan be? Chael Sonnen has already mentioned another belt he could aim for, namely the BMF title.

Sonnen believes ‘Iron’ can also compete for BMF title

Michael Chandler’s current situation has sparked debate over his next fight. The discussion also came up on a recent episode of “Good Guy/Bad Guy,” where hosts Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen gave their opinions. They are convinced that Chandler’s fight against Conor McGregor should happen in the coming months. But if those plans fall through, “Iron” can always set his sights on the BMF title and face Max Holloway.

“I believe Conor will be matched up against Michael Chandler. I can tell you that with confidence. However, if he isn’t, Michael Chandler vs. Max Holloway for the BMF belt is the fight to book,” Chael Sonnen said. Now there’s this back and forth online between Max Holloway and Ilia Topuriawhich hints at a potential featherweight title fight between them. Therefore, we cannot be sure if Michael Chandler is aiming for the BMF title.
