Rangers’ Gabe Perreault ready to continue strong freshman campaign at Boston College

Rangers’ Gabe Perreault ready to continue strong freshman campaign at Boston College

There’s a reason why many in the game have had nothing but praise for Rangers’ selection of the talented young winger. Gabe Perreault with the 23rd overall pick in the NHL Draft two years ago.

Perreault has all the makings of a future Broadway star and he showcased his game-changing abilities during his brilliant freshman year at Boston College.

The youngster was part of one of the best lines in the country and recorded 19 goals and 41 assists while helping the Eagles to the national championship.

“It was a big year for me and the team,” Perreault said at Rangers development camp. “It was a fun year overall, we obviously had a good season as a team and I had a good season. I think I got better and I got bigger, so it was really good overall.”

And it wasn’t just his own assessment that was positive, as the organization also seemed to like what it saw from its rising young prospect through his first 36 games at the college level.

“He’s had an incredible season,” said the Rangers’ director of player development. Jed Ortmyer “I’ve seen him many times, he’s been impressive and fun to watch, so he’s a player we’re excited about.”

Perreault also shined as a member of Team USA at the World Junior Championships, recording three goals and seven assists while skating alongside his Boston College teammates for all seven games.

After such a strong showing on the international stage and a monstrous freshman campaign, many questions have been asked as to when the 19-year-old will look to sign his professional contract with the Blueshirts to take his talents to the next level.

As anticipation builds, it appears Rangers fans will have to wait a little longer, as Perreault revealed he plans to return to Boston College for his sophomore season and will then evaluate things from there.

“I’m just focused on having another good year at school,” he said. “So I’m just going to try to focus on that, have a good season and hopefully win a national championship. And then when the time comes, I’ll talk to my family, my agent and the Rangers and make a decision from there.”
