Canadiens Rumors: Montreal Ready to Make a Big Move? – NHL Trade Rumors

The Montreal Canadiens, after a relatively quiet free agency period, are now ready to make a significant move to bolster their roster for the upcoming season, according to Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report.

Despite their best efforts to attract top talent, including a strong pursuit of 2023 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault, the Canadiens fell short, as Marchessault opted to sign with the Nashville Predators.

With most of the top free agents now under contract, the Canadiens are looking to the trade market to address their needs.

With its plentiful draft picks and promising young defensemen, Montreal is well-positioned to make some high-impact trades. Recent rumors have linked the Canadiens to Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Nečas and Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras, both of whom could provide the offensive depth they need, as Richardson noted.

With a solid core of young talent already in place, including Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovský, Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, adding an established top-6 forward via trade could significantly improve Montreal’s shot-making and elevate them to a competitive force in the 2024-25 season.
