During the July 4 holiday season, a man was arrested and charged after a traffic stop in Prince Edward County.

On July 3, Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Deputy J.R. Newman conducted a traffic stop on West Third Street. During the stop, Newman called out Sig, one of the department’s K-9 officers, and he sounded the alarm, which led to a search of the vehicle. The search uncovered drugs and a large amount of cash inside. As a result, Calvin Whitehead Jr. of Carriage Hill Road in Farmville was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 1 or 2 controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, driving on a revoked or suspended license, and carrying a tinted license plate.

Whitehead was released on bail and transported to the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville. Prince Edward County Sergeants Michael Fowlkes and Jason Jenkins, along with Longwood University Police Sergeant H. Turnbull and Officer N. R. Smith, assisted in the arrest. Sheriff Epps released a statement after the incident thanking everyone who assisted in the arrest.
