MACON, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT) — The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible for throwing a puppy off a bridge in Macon.

According to a press releaseOn May 21, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a severely injured puppy found on the railroad tracks under a Mead Road bridge. A witness reported seeing two people in a four-door sedan throw a blue, black and gray backpack off the bridge.

“The witness immediately took the puppy to SOS Rescue GA where a veterinarian discovered numerous old and new injuries, suggesting weeks of torture before the 10-week-old dog was thrown from the bridge,” the statement said. “The puppy, now named Guy Payne, will require multiple surgeries to overcome the injuries sustained during the prolonged abuse.”

“The sickening mistreatment of this defenseless puppy is inexcusable,” said Kassi Bennett, Animal Crimes Case Manager. “We hope this reward will encourage anyone with information to come forward and help us identify the person responsible for this horrific crime.”

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to report it by calling (478) 751-7500.
