Alexander Zverev had a message for Taylor Fritz after he squandered a two-set lead and lost in five sets 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-3 in their fourth-round match at Wimbledon on Monday.

Zverev won the first two sets but lost the next three — the second time that has happened to him at a Grand Slam this year.

After blowing the match, Zverev spoke to Fritz at the net during the traditional post-match handshake. The German player then gave the media a glimpse of what he had said to Fritz.

“His team is extremely respectful. I think his coach, his physio and his second coach are extremely respectful. I think there are other people in the dressing room who are maybe not part of the tennis world, who don’t particularly watch every match,” Zverev said after his match. “They overdid it a little bit. It’s okay. No problem. No drama. He fought two sets to zero, so obviously they’re all excited, very motivated, yeah. But I have no problem with Taylor. I think Taylor is a great guy. I have absolutely no problem with him.”

Fritz is now in the quarter-finals for the second time at Wimbledon in his career.

Zverev has yet to advance past the fourth round at Wimbledon. He also blew a two-set lead in the semifinals of this year’s Australian Open to Daniil Medvedev.
