Imphal (Manipur) (India), July 8 (ANI): Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra on Monday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur and said PM Modi’s “silence” would not bring any solution to the state.
Manipur Congress president said that Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi loves the people of Manipur.
“Rahul Gandhi visited Jiribam district early this morning. And the people of Jiribam district are very happy. Rahul Gandhi spoke with them and they shared their pain and also expressed many things… Rahul Gandhi loves the people of Manipur,” Meghachandra told reporters.
“We request the Prime Minister to visit Manipur so that a solution is found. His silence will not bring any solution to Manipur,” he added.
A Congress MP met victims of violence at Moirang relief camp in Bishnupur, Manipur on Monday.
“MP Rahul Gandhi visits Phubala High School relief camp in Moirang, where he meets victims of Manipur violence and offers support in these difficult times,” the Congress posted on X.
The Congress also arrived at Raj Bhavan in Imphal to meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey earlier in the day.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had visited Imphal to meet the victims of violence in relief camps in the state.
The Congress leader arrived at Imphal airport earlier this afternoon to visit the relief camps here.

The official account of the Congress party took to a microblogging site and posted on X: “Republic League leader Rahul Gandhi visits Jiribam Higher Secondary School relief camp, meets victims of violence and extends support to them in their darkest hour. His third visit to Manipur after the violence shows his unwavering commitment to the cause of the people.”
Violence erupted in the northeastern state on May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes category.
Prime Minister Modi, in his address to the Rajya Sabha last week, reiterated that the central government was working to normalise the situation in Manipur.
“The government is making continuous efforts to normalise the situation in Manipur. More than 11,000 FIRs have been registered and over 500 people have been arrested. Incidents of violence are continuously decreasing in Manipur,” PM Modi said.
He added that the central and state governments are establishing interactions with all stakeholders to restore peace. (ANI)
