ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed the contempt of court plea against cancellation of NOC for PTI’s public meeting.

Justice Babar Sattar observed, “We have to take decisions in accordance with the law. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) issued an order. The Chief Commissioner (CC) set aside it. You have to file a petition against the CC’s order.” Justice Babar Sattar observed, “If the CC has stayed the order, you will have to challenge it.”

Lawyer Shoaib Shaheen demanded that they be punished. Their connivance should be made public. Justice Babar Sattar remarked: “You will challenge the order and then the formality of the order will be determined. I cannot initiate contempt of court proceedings on the basis of this petition.” He added: “Tell me on what basis should I initiate contempt of court proceedings. Do what you can do as a lawyer.”

In the previous meeting, DC Islamabad allowed a public meeting to be held. The chief commissioner suspended it. The court dismissed the PTI’s petition. Justice Babar Sattar remarked, “Challenge the DC order, which you have not done.”

Advocate Shoaib Shaheen spoke: “We will file a petition again. These people are not motivated by good intentions and are not allowing us to do anything.” Justice Babar Sattar noted that political issues will not change the procedure. It is worth mentioning that the PTI has moved the IHC against the suspension of the NOC for holding a public meeting on July 6.
