Man Linked to Florida-Based Theft Ring Arrested With Stolen Property Pleads Guilty in Stafford

A man who was part of a Florida-based theft ring that was carrying more than $75,000 worth of stolen property when three of them were arrested in Stafford earlier this year pleaded guilty to two felony counts Tuesday.

Alexander Acosta Mazorra, 34, pleaded guilty in Stafford Circuit Court to attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Acosta Mazorra was arrested Feb. 6 at the Kohl’s at 1220 Stafford Marketplace in North Stafford, according to court documents. He was loading items into a cart when he stopped to take a phone call, prosecutor Philip Chichester said.

After hanging up the phone, Acosta Mazorra immediately began putting the items away on the nearest shelf. Stafford officers had arrived at the store in response to a call from the store’s loss prevention manager.

A Dodge Grand Caravan with Florida license plates was stopped in the parking lot and searched, Chichester said. Tools, smoke detectors, electronics and other items, many with their price tags still on them, were recovered.

Chichester said the stolen items came from Home Depots and other stores on the East Coast, including Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Ashland, North Carolina and Georgia. The three people arrested in Stafford were part of a theft ring that operated in several states, Chichester said.

Acosta Mazorra and others connected to the group are charged in Stafford and several other jurisdictions in addition to Stafford, Chichester said.
