Police identify suspect seen throwing lit fireworks at dog in Santa Ana; search underway

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) — Police have identified the man who was caught on camera throwing a lit firework at a dog in Santa Ana, and a search is now underway.

The incident happened over the Fourth of July weekend outside a home on West Pine Street. In the video, the man can be seen inside a silver sedan, setting off fireworks in the front yard.

The firework exploded in the dog’s face, causing severe burns and bleeding.

The Santa Ana Police Department said it has identified the suspect and will ask the district attorney’s office to file charges of animal cruelty and possession of explosives in public.

“Our patrol officers visited Romeo who is doing wonderfully!” the police department said of the dog on X.
