Milan considers Napoli target not transferable

Despite recently emerging as a transfer target for Napoli, United States international Yunus Musah will not be leaving Milan this summer. Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo spoke to X to say that the Serie A runners-up have deemed the former Valencia player untransferable.

Musah’s long-term prospects at Milan were uncertain at the start of the summer. The Italians were in the running for the 21-year-old’s signature for months a year ago before finally agreeing to pay Valencia €18m plus €2m in add-ons to secure his services.

Although still young and with plenty of room for improvement, Musah stuttered in his first season at the Stadio San Siro. He made 40 appearances in all competitions, including 30 in Serie A. But he failed to convince former Milan coach Stefano Pioli.

His propensity for making rookie mistakes and his lack of consistency have raised questions about his future in Lombardy. With Milan looking to bring in AS Monaco stalwart Youssouf Fofana, Paulo Fonseca’s side will be looking to offload at least two midfielders by the end of the summer. However, Musah will not be one of them.

According to Fonseca, the USMNT starlet could be a valuable asset for the new season. According to Longo, Milan will “bet heavily” on the versatile midfielder in 2023/24. With or without Fofana, Musah will play a leading role in the Portuguese’s squad.

Meanwhile, Fofana is close to joining Milan. They have agreed on personal terms, and now it is the turn of the Rossoneri to find common ground with Monaco.
