July 13, 2024 (La Mesa) – Shortly after midnight, a man shot in the upper torso crossed High Street in the 7500 block and fell into the driveway in front of an apartment building, a caller told police. Officers and firefighters immediately responded and provided first aid, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Based on initial information gathered by investigators, it does not appear that the victim, a 25-year-old white male from La Mesa, was shot while on the street. There were no reports of shots fired in the area,” Lt. Katy Lynch said. “A light-colored sedan was seen traveling westbound on High Street shortly before the victim was seen staggering across the street, but it is unknown if that vehicle is related to this incident.”

The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of relatives.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the 7500 block of High Street, between Waite Drive and the Park and Ride at 7600 High Street, was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

“We are also asking anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident or anyone who has information about this case to please call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400,” said Lt. Lynch. You can also call the toll-free, anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-TIPS (or www.sdcrimestoppers.com). You can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
