Bridgerton star Sam Phillips has opened up about an awkward moment he shared on set with his on-screen love interest Nicola Coughlan.

Bridgerton actor Lord Debling Sam Phillips, 40, has opened up about an embarrassing incident while filming the hit Netflix series with his co-star Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington.

The gripping plot of the first half of season 3 of the series sees Lord Debling being one of the main contenders for Penelope’s affections, as the couple court each other at numerous social events.




The audience will remember the dramatic and comic scene where Lord Debling heroically saves Penelope from a hot air balloon.

In a captivating sequence, Debling leaps to protect her beloved from danger while her other admirer Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) anchors the balloon mass coming towards her.

Despite the romantic feel of the scene, Sam has since revealed that filming was far from poetic.

Speaking to Australian TV show The Project alongside his colleague Jessie Madsen who plays Cressida Cowper, he admitted that the filming process was “very volatile”.
