San Francisco:

San Francisco, July 14 (IANS) Big Tech executives on Sunday condemned an assassination attempt targeting former US President Donald Trump at a campaign rally, stressing that political violence is intolerable.

The CEOs of Apple, Google, Microsoft and Meta posted comments on the social media platform X, wishing Trump a speedy recovery while criticizing the use of violence.

“I pray for President Trump’s speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him, the other victims, and the Trump family. I strongly condemn this violence,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai wished President Trump a speedy recovery.

“I am shocked by the shootings and the loss of life. Political violence is intolerable and we must all come together to stand firm against it,” Pichai said on X.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said: “There is simply no place for any form of violence in our society.”

“I extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery to President Trump and all those affected by today’s horrific event,” Nadella said.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, also prayed for a speedy recovery of the US presidential candidate.

“This is a very sad day for our country. Political violence undermines democracy and must always be condemned,” he wrote on the social media platform Threads.

Trump thanked the US Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response to the assassination attempt on him.

“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their rapid response to the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the former president wrote on his own social media platform, “Truth Social.”

“I especially want to express my condolences to the family of the person who was killed at the rally, as well as to the family of another person who was seriously injured,” he said.

The gunman, whose identity has not been released, was shot dead. Local authorities said he was in a low-rise building outside the rally site.

A member of the public was also killed, while another person was seriously injured.
