Coronation Street star breaks silence on Mason’s return drama

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street Star Liam McCheyne has spoken about Mason Radcliffe’s return to the show for the first time.

Young actor Dylan Wilson’s character fears for his safety this week when he learns that Mason has been released from the juvenile delinquency center.

Dylan bravely stood up to Mason earlier this year, testifying against him in court.

This served to bring justice to Mason who had to serve his punishment for threatening Liam Connor with a knife. However, in the next episodes, Liam’s mother, Maria, tells Dylan that Mason is free after only three months.

Talk to Digital Spy Speaking at the Radio Times Soap Awards, Liam explained: “Mason is being released from young offenders’ prison. Obviously Dylan is on high alert. He’s very worried about himself, he’s very worried about his dad.

“He’s in a tough spot, but whether Mason is going to be a bad guy or whether he’s going to try to turn it around, who knows? It’s going to be very exciting when he comes out.”

He continued: “All I can say is we really want to focus on the relationship between Dylan and Sean. Where Mason is going to come into that, there’s some exciting stuff coming up. Watch this space.”

Liam also reflected on his role in CorrieThe bullying storyline, in which Dylan acted as Mason’s accomplice while the villain cruelly targeted their classmate Liam Connor.

He told us: “The first word that comes to mind is ‘privilege’, more than anything. I have a huge passion in me to do something that is related to young people’s mental health, as we saw with Liam’s character.

“Working with Luca (Toolan, who plays Mason) and Charlie (Wrenshall, who plays Liam) has been absolutely fantastic, and of course Antony (Cotton, who plays Sean) as well – we’re still very close. It’s a privilege.”

The Radio Times Soap Awards ceremony took place at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on Saturday evening.

Charlie Wrenshall, who plays Liam, was one of the night’s winners as he won the award for Best Young Actor. Paul Foreman’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease also won the award for Best Screenplay.
