Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a US-based maritime energy, data and services company, has secured an order for its PowerBuoy, powered by Merrows, its artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled maritime domain awareness solution.

The contract with an undisclosed customer and value involves immediate delivery of OPT’s PowerBuoy to the Middle East.

According to OPT, the contract will generate revenue in the current quarter. The company had previously announced that it had been selected as the preferred supplier for its Merrows-equipped buoys in the region.

“We continue to grow our business across our solutions, WAM-V and PowerBuoys. We believe this delivery of a system powered by solar and wind energy underlines our ability to meet the needs of almost any marine environment around the world.

“By offering proven technology solutions, our potential customers can easily integrate additional WAM-Vs and PowerBuoys into their operations and put ocean intelligence in their hands,” said Philipp Stratmann, CEO and President of OPT.
