BBC Breakfast chaos as Jon Kay forced to step in to help star after unfortunate mistake

BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay has presented his final solo show.

Her regular co-host, Sally Nugent, 52, was not in the BBC studio as planned on Monday (July 15) due to a technical problem. The TV presenter was actually reporting from Berlin, the German capital, following the Euro 2024 final the previous day.

England faced Spain in a thrilling football tournament, hoping to bring home the trophy, but unfortunately it was not to be for the Three Lions and their manager Gareth Southgate.

In the dying moments of the match, Spain scored their second goal, securing victory for their country and leaving the England team and their supporters heartbroken.

Sally was reporting live from Berlin and was discussing the result and the possibility of Gareth Southgate returning as manager when she was abruptly interrupted, the Mirror reports.

Luckily, the production team quickly spotted the error and managed to catch up by focusing on Jon in the studio, who was presenting solo. Picking up where Sally left off, he said, “Oh my God, I think we lost the signal, Sally’s audio signal.”

He went on to bridge the gap, saying: “We’ll be back with her and Jon a little later. I’m thinking about the reaction of the fans in Germany, those who travelled in their thousands to Berlin but also those who stayed here at home and gathered in their living rooms and in fan parks, local gardens and pubs to watch the event unfold.”

“It was full of ups and downs, all sorts of emotions as always, but that’s what we expect from England games and our correspondent, Joe Inward, was right in the thick of it,” added Jon, who was presenting solo.
