Kazakhstan Motorcycle Grand Prix cancelled – Misano to host second round – Motorsport News

The Kazakhstan MotoGP has been cancelled due to flooding and the race will return to Misano for the second round.

MotoGP will return to Misano on September 22 to host a second round of the championship, after the Kazakhstan event was cancelled due to devastating flooding in the region. Sokol becomes the third MotoGP event to be cancelled, following India and Argentina.

The return to Misano for the second round will be called Emilia Romagna MotoGP, a name used for repeated events at the circuit during the Covid-19 pandemic. MotoGP officials have made an official announcement regarding the return of the Grand Prix to Misano.

Official statement from FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sportssaid: “Operational and logistical issues arising from previous flooding in the region have made the event impossible to stage in 2024.”

The new calendar change means that the San Marino MotoGP will take place between September 6 and 8 as planned, while the Emilia Romagna round will return from September 20 to 22.

Moto GP India: What happened?

The race was originally scheduled to take place in IndiaHowever, event organisers Fairstreet and MotoGP decided to cancel the event and move it to March 2025. The cancellation was due to multiple factors, including issues with the Indian organisers failing to meet contractual obligations for the 2023 race.

In an official statement, Pushkar Nath Srivastava, CEO, Farestreet, said, “The decision to move the race to March next year, targeting the first or second week, was a collective agreement between all stakeholders. The adverse weather conditions in September posed significant challenges to the drivers and marshals, as observed last year. With the support and vision of the Uttar Pradesh government, the March race will be held in a grander manner and will aim to set a new standard of excellence in motorsport events.”
