Day One of the RNC is Underway and Trump is Set to Announce His Vice Presidential Pick

THE First day of the Republican National Convention takes place in Milwaukee, where former President Donald Trump is expected to be officially inaugurated and announces choice for vice presidential running mate.

Tens of thousands of Republicans, including more than 2,400 delegates, have descended on Milwaukee for the convention, with dozens of lawmakers and top officials expected to address attendees during the four-day event. The first-floor session is now underway, and state roll-call votes on Trump’s official nomination are expected to begin soon.

Trump has made his choice for vice president, a source familiar with the process told CBS News, and the name will be announced on the convention floor shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sens. J.D. Vance of Ohio, Tim Scott of South Carolina, Marco Rubio of Florida and former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum were expected to be on Trump’s short list to get the nod, though Rubio and Burgum have now been told they will not be chosen.

The convention comes just two days after Trump narrowly survived a assassination attempt At a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump was shot in the ear and one attendee died after being shot by the gunman, who was killed by Secret Service snipers.

The attack threatened to upend the proceedings in Milwaukee, but Trump quickly said he was determined to move forward and arrived in the city Sunday night. He is scheduled to address the convention Thursday night.
