Shocked iPhone Owners Are Asking ‘Can You Do That?!’ After Fan Shares Hidden Button Trick That Solves Common Netflix Puzzle

APPLE fans have been left stunned after an iPhone owner shared a genius trick that is particularly useful if you use apps like Netflix.

Setup will take a few seconds, but it’s really handy if you regularly watch videos on your iPhone.

The trick takes advantage of Apple’s Shortcuts feature, which lets you create your own automated tricks on iPhone.

One user asked: “What are the coolest things you can do with Shortcuts? I’ve had an iPhone for years now, a 14 Pro currently, but I’ve never taken advantage of Shortcuts. I wonder what you can actually do with it?”

And another revealed how he set his iPhone to perform a handy function triggered by Netflix.

The answer, which has over 100 upvotes, says: “Shortcut that automatically turns off orientation lock when I open an app to watch something (like Netflix), then turns it back on when I exit the app.”

Orientation Lock is a feature that prevents your iPhone from switching between portrait and landscape views.

People often want to keep it enabled (to avoid annoying orientation changes), but this can make it difficult to watch the video.

In some apps, video will not display in landscape mode unless you turn off orientation lock.

Others (like Netflix or YouTube) may default to landscape mode and refuse to switch to portrait mode.

So this user created a shortcut that automatically turns it off when watching a video app and turns it back on when exiting the app.

Other iPhone owners were impressed by the idea, with one shocked fan replying: “You can… you can do that?!”

“I usually keep my phone locked to avoid changing orientation, because when I wake up and look at my phone, it always bothers me.

“It’s good to know!”

HOW TO CREATE AN IPHONE SHORTCUT

Setting up a custom shortcut is simple.

Simply go to the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and tap the + (plus) symbol at the top right of the screen.

You can then select New Shortcut, choose a name, tap Done, and then add actions.

Once your shortcut is complete, tap Done and it will join your shortcut collection

For the shortcut in this example, you’ll want to disable orientation lock when an app of your choice is open, or vice versa.

And then you can create a second shortcut that does the opposite when the app is closed.

If you don’t want to use shortcuts, there is another option you could try.

You can go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back tap and set Rotation lock to Double tap or Triple tap.

You can then double-tap (or triple-tap if you chose Triple Tap) the back of your iPhone to quickly adjust the lock rotation.

iPhone Tips to Try Today

Here are some of the best…

  • Input cursor – While typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a touchpad, allowing you to move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do it in one go, just hold the overlapping squares in the bottom right corner and tap close all tabs
  • Quickly delete many photos – Touch and hold a photo, then swipe diagonally in Photos to select multiple images at once, then tap Delete
  • Convert currencies quickly – Swipe down from the top of your home screen, then tap the bar and enter a currency (like €200) and it will automatically convert to your local currency
  • Check if you need to perform a battery upgrade – Smartphone batteries degrade over time. Simply go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and check the maximum capacity. Typically, a battery is considered worn out when its capacity is below 80%. If you’re below that, you can purchase a replacement battery from Apple
  • Move apps faster – Hold down an app until it starts to wiggle, then (while still holding it) tap other apps, which makes them stack so you can move them around more easily

If you tend to do this too easily, it might be worth choosing Triple Tap over Double Tap.

And remember: you can turn this setting off at any time if you decide you don’t like it.

Likewise, you can remove a shortcut at any time if you find that you don’t get along well with it.
