The girlfriend of Jay Slater’s brother has posted an emotional message after Spanish police announced they had found a body during their search for the missing teenager.

Tenerife Island Police confirmed today that human remains have been found in the Masca area.

Although official identification has yet to take place, the Spanish Civil Guard said “all elements suggest” that the remains are those of Jay, including some of his clothes and personal effects found nearby.

Jay Slater’s brother’s girlfriend Jessica Rogers took to social media today to pay tribute to the teenager.

She posted a photo of Jay with a blue heart, accompanied by the words: “I will love you forever.”

Jay’s heartbroken family must now wait for an autopsy to be carried out to confirm whether the body found near where his phone last rang in Teno Country Park is that of Jay.

Human remains have been found during the search for British teenager Jay Slater, who went missing almost a month ago on the island of Tenerife.
Spanish police today released footage showing the final moments of the agonising 29-day search for the missing Briton in the mountains near the village of Masca in Tenerife.

Brad Hargreaves, who was on holiday with the apprentice bricklayer in Tenerife before his disappearance, took to social media to post a tribute earlier today.

Mr Hargreaves, who took part in the search before returning to Britain last week, posted two pictures of himself and his friend along with a heartfelt message.

“Nothing would be the same without you. Rest in peace my brother. I will always love you,” he wrote with a wave of broken hearts and a crying emoji.

The Civil Guard said that although a formal identification must take place, “all evidence suggests” that the remains are those of Jay, including some of his clothes found nearby.

The 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, had not been seen or heard from since Monday, June 17.

Jay Slater’s family have been informed that human remains have been found in the mountainous area of the Spanish island after a body was found this morning (pictured: Jay Slater with his mother Debbie Duncan)

Jay had flown to the Spanish holiday island for an eight-day vacation with friends Lucy Mae Law and Brad before disappearing.

The family has been informed that a body has been found in an “inaccessible” part of Tenerife where the teenager had disappeared.

His family, including his mother Debbie Duncan and father Warren Slater, were informed of the discovery shortly before the media announcement.

The Civil Guard says that although a formal identification must take place, “all evidence suggests” that the remains are those of Jay Slater.

Initial investigations suggest he may have been the victim of an “accident or fall,” they added.

Jay’s clothes and personal belongings were found next to the body, which was found near the last known location of his phone.

Lancashire Police issued a statement confirming they had been “informed by the Guardia Civil that they had found the body of a man and that all indications are that he is Jay Slater”.

“While no formal identification has been made at this time, our thoughts are with Jay’s family at this time, and we continue to offer them our support,” the statement added.

Jay had attended the three-day NRG music festival at the Papagayo nightclub in Playa de Las Americas before disappearing.

In the early hours of June 17, Jay drove with two men he had met at the festival to their £40-a-night Airbnb in the remote north-west village of Masca.

At 7:30 a.m., Jay posted a Snapchat photo showing himself at the gate of the property, indicating the location Parque Rural de Teno.

Half an hour later, he called his friend Lucy to tell her he was on a 10-hour walk back to his accommodation in the tourist hotspot on the southern part of the island.

He said he was lost, severely dehydrated and had only one percent battery left on his cell phone before it died.

Her disappearance, which has sparked wild online conspiracy theories from cruel trolls, has prompted a massive search and rescue mission, with Spanish police scouring the mountainous landscape around Masca.

A 13-day search by police using drones, dogs and a helicopter found no trace of Jay.

However, the official search was called off after just 13 days, prompting a backlash from his desperate family who said they had been “left in the dark”.

Today, a Civil Guard spokesman said: “After 29 days of constant searching, the body of the young man was found in the Masca region.

“The discovery was possible thanks to the tireless and discreet searches carried out by the Civil Guard over the past 29 days.

“Everything suggests that the body is that of the young British man who disappeared on June 17, pending full identification.

“Initial investigations suggest that he may have been the victim of an accident/fall in the area where he was found.”

In a more comprehensive statement, the force added: “Officers of the Civil Guard belonging to the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) located this morning the lifeless body of a young man in the area of Masca, belonging to the municipality of Buenavista del Norte.

“Everything suggests that this could be the young British man, missing for 29 days, who died following an accidental fall in the rugged and inaccessible area where he was found.

“Thanks to the incessant and constant searches carried out by the different units of the Civil Guard, who have not stopped looking for the young man every day in the area of Masca, where he is said to have disappeared, the GREIM agents found the lifeless body of the young man in a very inaccessible area.

“The autopsy results are pending to confirm that it was an accident.”

GREIM agents led the search after Jay disappeared on June 17 after leaving an Airbnb in Masca.

A visible search involving a helicopter and sniffer dogs continued for nearly two weeks before police announced it was being called off.

They had not said publicly that the operation was continuing and there had been few outward signs that it would continue on a smaller scale.

Police said on June 30, after appealing for volunteers for a “final search operation” the day before: “The search operation is now over, although the case remains open.”

A well-placed source added: “The daily operation that was taking place in and around Masca, close to where Jay was last seen, has come to an end.

“If we receive information that merits further investigation, we will follow up on it.

“My understanding is that Jay’s parents have been informed of what is clearly a major development.

“Nothing relevant was found during yesterday’s large-scale search.”

Jay was on holiday for the first time with his friends, Lucy Law (pictured) and Brad Hargreaves, when he went missing in Tenerife.
Brad Hargreaves (pictured) also said he spoke to Jay on the phone before he disappeared.

Jay’s distraught mother Debbie Duncan yesterday slammed the “horrible comments and conspiracy theories” posted on social media, calling them “vile” and saying they were “hindering” the investigation.

Mrs Duncan yesterday posted an update on the GoFundMe page set up for her son’s search, which has raised more than £53,000.

She revealed how the family called in rescue experts from the Netherlands to help find the teenager after Spanish police stopped their search on the ground.
