A four-way stop will impact drivers from today until a more permanent and much more expensive solution is put in place.

Tempe-based Nesbitt Contracting installed the four-way stop this morning at the intersection of West Bowlin and North White and Parker roads.

Stop signs and lane restrictions will remain in place for several months until $1.7 million project is complete.

“The project involves widening the south and east sections of the intersection and installing a traffic signal,” said Quinn Konold, a city spokesperson. “All four directions of traffic will have dedicated left-turn lanes and Bowlin Road westbound will have a continuous right-turn lane.”

The red light eliminates yesterday’s two-way intersection where T-shaped collisions were common. Until this morning, the White and Parker Road crossing was free to travel north-south with no stop signs.

The intersection is one of two that connect the east side of Maricopa to the west and is expected to be completed by Oct. 15, according to a news release. map maintained by the city.
