Tabu calls Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha co-star Ajay Devgn a ‘silent bully’

The actress had previously called him a “bully” because of the way he would beat up boys who came near her. When asked if she would still call him a bully, the actress said, “He is a silent bully. People will never know that he has such a plan up his sleeve. He has a very quiet and gentle way of annoying people. He is quite mischievous.”

Tabu on Neeraj Pandey’s decision not to rejuvenate the characters in the film

Talking about their upcoming release, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, the film will feature them as star-crossed lovers who reunite after 22 years with Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee M Manjrekar playing their younger versions.

Reacting to this, Tabu recalled that when she was offered the script, she asked the director, Neeraj Pandey, to tell her about the role of the girl. In response to this, she was told that another set of actors would play the role, the actress was happy with the decision.

She expressed her belief by saying, “Sometimes actors who age can come across as gimmicky, especially if the audience knows how old they are.” She added that the audience had seen what they looked like today. However, she felt that some films could accommodate older actors playing younger roles because it didn’t seem unattractive. On the other hand, their film worked better otherwise.

Tabu on age-appropriate roles

Tabu also pointed out that age-appropriate casting was the norm back then, and it was only recently that older actors started playing younger characters on screen. She cited examples from yesteryear, explaining that this was also the case before, when the concept of ageing did not exist.

“We have seen different actors playing younger versions of the protagonists. Once they grew up, they became Dharmendra or Dilip Kumar. I think with this film, we are continuing that tradition,” she said.

The actress also said that unlike her male contemporaries, she would no longer want to play a younger woman on screen. “I would turn down those roles. I don’t think I would be ready to play a 30-year-old woman. I have no choice but to accept my age,” she concluded.

When Neeraj Pandey Revealed Why Ajay Devgn And Tabu’s Characters Weren’t Made Younger

Notably, in an interview with the portal earlier, Neeraj Pandey had also revealed the reason why he did not use de-aging for his actors. He explained that he used de-aging via VFX only when the story demanded it. According to him, the excessive use of de-aging has reached a point where it almost borders on technological abuse. The director mentioned that for AMKDT, Ajay and Tabu’s characters could not be de-aged as it would have looked “ridiculous”.

He also revealed that they were very clear from the beginning about using two separate pairs of actors to represent two age groups. According to him, this is what suits the story and makes it beautiful. He added that after 24, people undergo physical changes.
