BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Bloomington City Council member Cody Hendricks announced Tuesday morning that he is running for mayor in 2025.

According to a press release from his office, he “will continue to be a responsive and engaged leader for all Bloomington residents.”

“Our community has asked for leadership that listens, acts and delivers, and I am up for the challenge,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks has served on council since May 2023 as the Ward 6 representative. Prior to that, Hendricks, who grew up in Pekin, served on the Pekin City Council from 2011 to 2015. He said he worked with business owners, city staff and residents to grow the economy and services in the city.

“His positive working relationship with city staff allows him to provide the best possible service to constituents. Hendrick is focused on developing concrete plans to address the affordable housing crisis, working to update the city’s infrastructure, and collaborating with state and federal partners to help Bloomington receive grants to see visionary projects in our community in the coming years.”
“The finish line,” the statement said.

“As mayor, I will bring a new vision to Bloomington, one that focuses on tangible results and meaningful progress,” he said. “I am committed to delivering real, new change. My campaign is grounded in our community’s desire for new leadership that is responsive, innovative and forward-looking.”

Hendricks said he has a new vision, citing downtown Bloomington as a key economic incubator.

He also said the city needed a young leader with an energetic and passionate vision, energetic and present.

Hendricks is a longtime central Illinois resident who has a passion for politics and service in Bloomington, according to his campaign website.
