While The Walt Disney Company has not made an official statement on the incident, we wanted to share the details known so far about this incident.

According to the Wall Street Journal, an anonymous hacking group called Nullbulge has published internal communications from The Walt Disney Company. The leak involved internal communications via Slack (a corporate communications platform) and included “discussions about advertising campaigns, studio technology and interview candidates, according to files viewed by The Wall Street Journal.”

The hacker group Nullbulge advocates for “artists’ rights and chooses its targets based on a set of social, economic or political values.” The hacker group chose to target Disney “because of its handling of artist contracts, its approach to AI and its blatant disregard for the consumer.”

On their Twitter account X, Nullbulge claimed to have leaked 1.1 terabytes of data, including over 10,000 Slack channels. According to them, the data includes “unpublished projects, raw images and code, credentials, links to APIs/internal web pages, and much more.” Additionally, the hacking group said they could have gone further, but their henchman got scared and kicked them out.

The hacking group claims to have gained access to the information by compromising the computer of a Disney software development manager. Nullbulge claims the computer was compromised twice. Once with a video game add-on, but they have not revealed how they gained access the second time.

Disney has yet to make a statement about the hack, telling the Wall Street Journal that “Disney is investigating this matter.”
