Traffic stop leads to major drug bust in Williamston

WILLIAMSTON, NC (WITN) – A traffic stop in an Eastern Carolina town two weekends ago landed two men in jail on drug charges, police said.

Williamston police said they conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17. During the stop, police said a Martin County Sheriff’s Office K9 alerted officers to the potential presence of drugs in the vehicle.

During the search, investigators say the K-9 officer found 11 pounds of cocaine.

Agents said they contacted the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force and DEA agents in Raleigh for assistance.

As a result, Luis Gerardo Orozco Bordas, 28, and Alfonzo Ramirez, 32, both of Mexico, were charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by transportation and conspiracy to traffic in cocaine.

Both men were given $1.5 million bail and taken to Bertie Martin Regional Jail.
