Daring crook caught on camera stealing expensive technology from Dania Beach boating company

DANIA BEACH, Florida – Police are looking for a thief who fled with very expensive navigation equipment.

Surveillance video captured at Just Catamarans, located at a marina near Dania Beach Boulevard, showed the thief in action Friday.

Laurent Facchin, the service manager at Just Catamarans, told Local 10 News that the criminal took $16,000 worth of nautical technology.

Facchin said he was about to install one on a catamaran when he noticed it was missing.

The camera shows the daring cook going in different directions, trying to avoid the employees.

It seems like every summer we hear more and more about similar cases involving expensive navigation equipment.

Private boats are being targeted for their GPS systems, such as the one in Deerfield Beach that led to the dismantling of a statewide boat theft ring.

Just Catamarans is adding doors and extra security after this latest case and the Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

The employees are also following some pretty interesting leads.
