TRENDING: San Francisco 49ers receiver has message for fellow receiver Brandon Aiyuk amid notable trade request – REPORT – S2024 Offseason

Despite being one of the NFL’s most consistent teams for most of a decade, the San Francisco 49ers are in the midst of another offseason where a player has requested a trade. Years after kicker Robbie Gould, running back Raheem Mostert and wideout Deebo Samuel told management they wanted out, star receiver Brandon Aiyuk requested a trade Tuesday. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Aiyuk officially requested a trade Tuesday after “failed attempts to get an extension.”

If San Francisco does manage to retain Aiyuk, it will be the fifth straight time a 49ers player has requested a trade but stayed with the NFC West club. Samuel notably requested a trade in 2022 but ultimately signed a three-year, $73.5 million contract extension with $58.1 million guaranteed. Fellow 49er Jauan Jennings, however, may not be as optimistic as others about San Francisco opening its wallet for Aiyuk.

On Wednesday, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings posted a somewhat cryptic message via his Instagram account. Jennings wrote on a black canvas: “You gotta be a different type of person to act like you do everything by yourself knowing full well you don’t.” Given Jennings’ timing, the message certainly applies to teammate Brandon Aiyuk, who requested a trade just hours earlier.

Aiyuk is coming off his best statistical campaign, throwing 75 passes for 1,342 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns. Aiyuk finished as a second-team All-Pro, though he didn’t make the Pro Bowl. Trade rumors swirled around Aiyuk all offseason, with the Arizona State product entering the final year of a four-year, $12 million contract. Aiyuk enters next season as one of the biggest bargains in football, but he’ll likely sign a contract worth at least $120 million starting in 2025.

Jennings: Enters fourth NFL season

Jauan Jennings, the receiver who took a chance on Brandon Aiyuk on Tuesday, will enter his fourth NFL season next year, all with the San Francisco 49ers. Jennings has played mostly a backup role with San Francisco, never passing for 500 yards in a season. His best year came in 2022, when he had 35 receptions for 416 yards and a touchdown. However, he caught five touchdowns despite only having 24 receptions in his rookie campaign heading into 2021.

If San Francisco does ultimately part ways with Brandon Aiyuk, Jennings could play a larger role alongside star Deebo Samuel. However, the 49ers burned two valuable draft picks on receivers last draft. In the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, San Francisco selected Florida star Ricky Pearsall. Meanwhile, they selected Arizona Wildcats product Jacob Cowing in the fourth round.
