I Tried Moon Juice’s Charli XCX-Inspired “Bratty Shake” Smoothie

I Tried Moon Juice’s Charli XCX-Inspired “Bratty Shake” Smoothie

Barbie is so last summer. This season is for the sassy girls. The viral aesthetic inspired by Charli XCX’s sixth studio album, Kid, It’s about being a “365-day-a-year party girl” who wears a lot of lime green and does whatever she wants.

To refuel after a night out with friends, Moon Juice has just what anyone living a kid’s life needs: a Bratty Shake.

The new $18 blended drink, available for a limited time (likely through the end of summer), was co-created by the wellness brand and TikToker Daniel Preda (@misterpreda) to taste like “brat in a cup.”

The Bratty Shake Isn’t Exactly a Shake

To manage your expectations, know that the so-called shake is much more of a fruit smoothie with the following ingredients:

The collaboration was inspired by a viral video on TikTok

Before this Moon Juice collaboration, Preda was the mastermind behind TikTok’s $31 (fake) Charli XCX Kid Erewhon Smoothie which included similar ingredients like lime, matcha and activated charcoal, along with other tasty additions like green apple, spinach and avocado.

His viral video from June 11, with over 114,000 likes, must have caught the attention of the good folks at Moon Juice, because a few days later, on June 15, the brand announced its collaboration with the designer.

If you want to try it for yourself, remember that it’s summer, so you don’t have much time. But before you rush into buying this drink, you might first want to know what the “so Julia” tastes like.

Moon Juice’s Brat Girl Smoothie is a real explosion of vibes

Judging the Bratty Shake on its appearance alone, it would get a 10 out of 10. The bright lime green hue perfectly matches Charli XCX’s album with black charcoal flecks for an Insta-worthy drink.

It looks like a liquid version of Kim PossibleShego — very Kid-coded. Another thing I really like is that the mug has Moon Juice’s usual “cosmic in a mug” crossed out so it reads “kid in a mug”.

While dressing like a bratty girl has a lot to do with aesthetics, looks aren’t everything when it comes to food. It also has to taste good, and that’s where the Bratty Shake falls flat for me.

There’s a lot going on here. It’s almost like watching the music video for “360” with all the cameos, but having that much flavor in a smoothie is a little confusing.

The description of the Bratty Shake on DoorDash says it’s a “lush matcha colada with Naked Mini Dew and Rhodiola,” so I figured it would be like a tropical matcha with coconut and banana flavors. However, it mostly tasted like herbal lemongrass.

It was tart and not very creamy, with a strong citrus kick. I could have sworn there was orange juice in every sip, but it must have just been the lemon and lime. If you’re looking for a healthy-tasting fruity drink, this would be more your style than heading to Erewhon for one of Hailey Bieber’s sugary strawberry smoothies.

TL;DR

The Bratty Shake is the exact opposite of the Strawberry Glaze Smoothie, which seems fitting since the brat girl aesthetic is a contrast to Bieber’s sweet girl vibe. While it fits the theme well, I still wouldn’t order it again. I guess I just don’t feel like being a real brat girl, and that’s okay.
