Ohio State Softball Team Announces Former Bobcat Madi McCrady as Assistant Coach

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team has announced the addition of former Bobcats pitcher Madi McCrady as its new assistant coach and head coach. Jenna Hall announced today (July 17). McCrady will work primarily with Ohio’s pitching staff.

“We are excited to welcome Madi to Ohio Softball as our new assistant coach,” Hall said. “She brings a decorated playing career, championship experience and a true love for the Bobcats. Madi’s primary mission will be to oversee our bullpen and work with our entire pitching staff. As a former Division I pitcher, she understands what it takes to perform at the highest level. Her knowledge base combined with her strong competitive spirit will have an immediate impact on our program.”

McCrady spent last season as an assistant coach at Capital, where she helped the pitching staff maintain a 4.00 ERA. During her time at Capital, McCrady designed individualized training scripts to improve pitching, fielding and hitting mechanics, and conducted opponent scouting reports to develop effective game strategy. She also supported recruiting by evaluating prospects and coordinating visits and assisted with fundraising efforts for team expenses and equipment. McCrady also contributed to game-day operations, including roster preparation and in-game coaching.

“Athens is a place that is near and dear to my heart and I couldn’t be more grateful to be able to come back and represent the Green and White,” McCrady said. “A sincere thank you to Coach Jenna Hall for entrusting me with the leadership of the circle. I look forward to seeing Ohio return to Firestone Stadium.


During her career at Ohio, McCrady played four seasons and made 100 appearances in the circle, with 85 starts, 48 ​​complete games and 494.1 total innings. She recorded a career 5.02 ERA with 429 strikeouts. She finished her career fifth all-time in wins (45) and starts (85). She finished sixth all-time in innings pitched (494.1) and fourth all-time in strikeouts (429). McCrady was also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.


In 2018, McCrady was part of the 2018 regular season and MAC Tournament champion Ohio Bobcats who advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals in Knoxville, where McCrady was the starting pitcher in Ohio’s playoff game against James Madison. McCrady pitched 4.0 innings and allowed no runs on three hits in the win that sent Ohio to the Regional Finals.


In 2019, McCrady appeared in 41 games and made 37 starts in the Bobcats’ circle. McCrady went 23-13 with 28 complete games and one save, while striking out 207 batters and posting a 3.20 ERA.


Madi will work with an Ohio pitching staff that includes a two-time All-MAC first-team selection and the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year Skipp Millerand a selection to the All-MAC Second Team and All-Freshman Team in Mikie Lieving.


McCrady graduated from Ohio in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, a master’s degree in reading education and a minor in coaching.
