Tucker Carlson claims Trump offered to stand guard outside his house in impromptu speech to his ‘leader’

Former Fox News anchor, election falsehoods propagator and conservative provocateur Tucker Carlson says Donald Trump offered to stand guard at his home after protesters came to his Washington property in 2018.

Carlson received the biggest applause at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee on the fourth and final night of the Republican National Convention before Trump’s speech.

“It’s very different than I imagined,” Carlson said when he took the stage.

Last year, Fox News fired Carlson, but he remains a very popular and influential figure in right-wing circles. Carlson began by addressing Trump’s shooting in Pennsylvania, saying that the event had solidified his status as a leader.

“Everything was different after that moment, everything that happens in that convention is different,” Carlson said. “When he got up after being shot in the face, covered in blood, and he raised his hand, I thought at that moment that was a transformation.”

Throughout the convention, Republicans sought to humanize Trump. On Wednesday, his granddaughter Kai Trump spoke before her father Don Jr., describing him as an ordinary grandfather. Similarly, Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, sought to portray Trump as a devout religious leader.

“Just because you call yourself president doesn’t mean anything in and of itself. I can call my dog CEO of Hewlett Packard, but that doesn’t mean he is,” Carlson said, before suggesting that President Joe Biden was a mannequin. “And you hate to say it, but it’s also true that you could take, I don’t know of a mannequin, a dead person and make them president.”

He then repeated the lie that the 2020 election was stolen.

“With enough cheating, it could happen,” Carlson said.

Carlson also praised Sen. J.D. Vance, calling him a friend.

“He’s a perfectly honest man and I have to admit he’s a friend of mine,” he said. “But J.D. Vance has views that are closer to Trump voters than anyone else in Washington. That’s why he’s vice president. That’s democracy.”

Carlson then claimed that in 2018, Antifa protesters came to his house while his wife was home, calling them a “Democrat Party militia.”

“I was at work, it was obvious when I was at work because it was public. My wife was alone, they tried to come in through the front door and they terrorized her,” he said.

Carlson said the next day, Trump called his wife Susan.

“I hear it, it’s coming,” he said. “And the first thing he says is, ‘I’m going to stand guard in front of your house.’”

Although he is no longer on television, Carlson hosts a show on X. Earlier this year, he was criticized for interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Carlson’s speech marked a turning point for the Republican Party. Earlier in the convention, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had criticized Carlson for interviewing Putin, was roundly booed. Both Vance and Carlson have criticized support for Ukraine.

Carlson joined GOP politicians and celebrities, including WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan.

But Carlson said there was another VIP in the room. “But I say it unequivocally,” he said. “God is among us right now. And I think that’s enough.”
