CINCINNATI (WXIX) — A man accused of brazenly shooting a 24-year-old victim in broad daylight outside a Cincinnati Walmart store has been sentenced.

Josiah Hassell will spend between 25 and 30.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated murder and felonious assault.

The charges against Hassell stem from the November 2021 shooting of Jamontea Brown outside the Western Hills Walmart store near Ferguson Road in Westwood.

Joe Deters, then Hamilton County prosecutor, said he “executed” Brown outside the store.

Brown was waiting for a ride outside the store when he was shot shortly after 3 p.m. on Nov. 27, 2021, two days after Thanksgiving.

Surveillance video from the store shows a man dressed in black with a black hoodie over his head approaching the victim from behind, pointing a gun directly at the back of his head and firing.

Brown collapsed and died at the scene in the arms of his child’s mother.

According to the former prosecutor, there was a “quarrel” over a small sum of money before the shooting.
