The cost of living may be too high for most consumers, but for some people who know how to buy their monthly groceries, it’s a different story.

TikTok creator @bulelani.eats posted a video of what he bought for R350 at a local Shoprite supermarket, leaving many people stunned by the price, given the current price of food. In the video, the creator who showcases his cooking recipes on the app showed users what he bought. His purchase included meat, 18 eggs, bacon, spices and a cucumber.

Although not everything was included in this shopping cart, many Internet users thought that the costs were low due to the promotion on the supermarket products, something that some users questioned.

Users had a lot to say in the creator’s comments section:

One user commented: “The problem with Shoprite is that all those groceries can be spoiled the next day,” leading another user to reply: “Maybe your local Shoprite.”

Another user said: “Shoprite doesn’t like me because, how come I end up paying between R1,850 and R2,000 for my monthly groceries?”

Another user said that the current economy forces one to constantly do mathematics as Shoprite stores usually have chicken packs at lower prices than other stores, adding that they prefer buying spices from spice stores rather than supermarkets and they always look for special offers at any local supermarket to save money.
