More Homeowners Eligible for Grants Offered by Meck County Program

A lifeline for Mecklenburg County homeowners is back and expanding.

The Helping Out Mecklenburg Homeowners with Economic Support, or HOMES, program provides homeowners in need with nearly $650 in economic assistance grants.

This year, the City of Davidson is also joining the initiative. Davidson and Charlotte residents can get hundreds of dollars in additional help with homeownership costs, especially as the cost of living increases.

There is no age requirement and the housing does not have to be fully repaid, officials said. The county said thousands of people benefited last year.

Applications have been open since July 1st and will remain open until the end of November.

Mecklenburg County homeowners who are eligible for a HOMES grant include those who:

  • Have lived in their accommodation for at least three years

  • Meet an eligible total household income level, and

  • Not have more than one outstanding tax bill in the last three years
