Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers ‘not aware’ of Heisman Trophy run

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has been in Heisman talks since his College Football Playoff run with the Longhorns in 2023.

Now, with Texas moving to the Southeastern Conference, Ewers’ name is even hotter in the race for the prestigious trophy – but that’s not his priority.

“You know, I think Quinn is probably the coolest guy in the room,” head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “He doesn’t care about what a Heisman is. If you asked him, would he know? He doesn’t care about that stuff. When Quinn has time off, he goes hunting or fishing. When he’s here, he goes to work and he just practices his craft. He’s with his teammates.”

According to his coach, Ewers has the ability to stay calm even in stressful moments, and he is focused on the SEC Championship and the game he is playing.

“Even in the game, when you think about Quinn, when he shows those moments of emotion on a great throw, it’s almost shocking to people because even when the bad moments happen, he’s so calm and so cool in the moment that with the hype, I don’t think we have to worry about it too much,” Sarkisian said. “He’s more focused on trying to win a championship, playing the best football he can, being the best leader, the best teammate he can be. That’s probably more important to him than whatever award he might win down the road, because some people say he might win it.”

But Ewers feels the pressure and knows the expectations that come with his title.

“There’s definitely a lot of pressure playing quarterback at the University of Texas,” Ewers said. “But I couldn’t be happier and more excited about the opportunity that’s been given to me by the good Lord above and the platform that He’s given me and I’m just excited for year three.”
