Shopper shocked after seeing price of like-new Dyson product at local thrift store: ‘I’m blown away’

Saving money is always fun, but sometimes it can pay off big time.

A Reddit user found a perfectly working Dyson air purifier for just $9.

"Wow, lucky you, they aren't cheap."

“I’m blown away,” they said. “Pardon the pun.”

Their post shows a photo of the air purifier in their home. They noted that it connects perfectly to their WiFi and also oscillates. It is “in perfect condition,” they shared.

Not only did they get a great deal, they also shopped sustainably. With Environment America reporting that the average American throws away nearly five pounds of trash every day, thrifting is a great way to repurpose items. These days, you can find almost anything second-hand if you look hard enough.

This Reddit user isn’t the only one who sees the value in second-hand shopping. CBS says that this type of shopping is becoming increasingly popular, with some people even using thrift stores to find discounted gifts.

If you’re lucky, you might even find something valuable that you can then cherish or resell for a profit. Some thrift stores have moved at least part of their operations online, which also gives you access to used items that may not be available in your area.

Earthday.org explains that shopping secondhand is generally more sustainable than buying fast fashion, although it may not be as useful as we’d like. Many donations simply aren’t in good enough condition to be offered in stores, so they get thrown away anyway. Other times, people buy secondhand items that deteriorate quickly.

The University of Colorado suggests avoiding these problems by only donating and purchasing items that are in good condition and that you know you’ll use. That way, everyone gets the best deal possible when shopping secondhand.

Overall, all comments agreed that this Redditor got the most out of his secondhand shopping experience.

“I’m so jealous!” one said. “I paid $50 for mine and thought it was a bargain, but $9!!”

Another added: “Wow, lucky you, that’s not cheap.”
