Arunachal Chief Minister tables bill in Assembly to prevent unfair practices in recruitment exams

Itanagar, Jul 19 (UNI) In a major step to curb irregularities and use of unfair means in public examinations, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tabled the ‘Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024’ in the state Assembly on the first day of the six-day Budget Session on Friday.

“The Bill has been proposed to provide effective measures to prevent, curb and deal with the offences of absconding from examination and use of unfair means in public examinations for the purpose of recruitment to any post under the State Government, including autonomous bodies, authorities, boards or corporations.

“The new law will serve as a deterrent against unfair means used by the public examination authority, as well as candidates and criminal masterminds who resort to such tactics,” the statement of the bill reads.

The bill provides for severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines, disqualification from taking part in recruitment examinations, and seizure and confiscation of property. A provision for the appointment of a special court to try such offences expeditiously has also been included in the bill.

Addressing the media at the Assembly premises, the Chief Minister said that it was a very good initiative of the state government to put an end to the nefarious practice of leaking documents during public examinations. He added that once the bill is passed, no one will dare to commit such malpractices.

Later, on his X social media account, CM Khandu wrote: “Those who play with the lives of our hardworking youth, undermining their dreams and aspirations, will be held accountable!”

“This bill aims to put an end to the injustice of unfair recruitment practices and ensure a level playing field for all. We will not tolerate any act that compromises the future of our youth,” he said.

The House also witnessed the introduction of the ‘Arunachal Pradesh Amendment Bill, 2024’ by Minister for Law, Legislature and Justice Kento Jini and ‘Jhum Land Regulations of Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Amendment Bill, 2024’ by Minister for Urban Development, Town Planning, Urban Local Bodies, Housing, Land Management and Civil Aviation Balo Raja.
