GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An event next month will give the Green Bay community a chance to get up close and personal with the city’s SWAT team.

The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) is hosting a family-friendly event to let the public learn more about what it’s like to be part of the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) unit.

The event will take place on August 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CrossFit Green Bay – East. All ages and skill levels are welcome. General admission is free.

Attendees can meet the SWAT team and recruiting staff, see officers in action through demonstrations, and view GBPD vehicles and equipment.

For a fee of $10, participants can take part in a SWAT fitness test sponsored by CrossFit Green Bay.

“This event is an opportunity for our residents to learn more about the Green Bay Police Department SWAT Team and our response, movements and techniques to try to achieve a safe resolution,” said Sergeant Mike Luberda, GBPD SWAT Team member.

“We want our community to feel comfortable if we have to come into their neighborhood and know that we are normal people with normal lives who have high-risk jobs.”
