Bangor location inspired scene from ‘It Chapter Two’

Bangor location inspired scene from ‘It Chapter Two’

When the “Losers Club” meets for dinner, you might recognize the place.

There is a pivotal scene in the movie It Chapter 2 that people in the Bangor area will immediately notice.

The old friends reunite for a Chinese dinner and some fortune cookies at a restaurant called Jade of the Orient, which happens to be based on the legendary Oriental Jade, located at 320 Bangor Mall Boulevard.

In fact, just recently they hosted SK Tours of Maine, for a lunch stop during the tour.

When it came time to film the scene, it turned out it was shot at the Mandarin restaurant in Mississauga, Ontario.

As we all know, Stephen King created the fictional city of Derry, which is based on Bangor, which becomes very evident when you see the landmarks in the film.

The Thomas Hill Fire Hydrant, a water storage facility that controls the city’s water pressure, inspired the Derry Fire Hydrant, where Stan first meets Pennywise in the film.

For those of you unfamiliar with “IT Chapter Two,” after being defeated by members of the “Losers Club,” the evil clown Pennywise returns 27 years later to once again terrorize the town of Derry, Maine.

Now adults, the childhood friends have long since gone their separate ways, but when people start disappearing, Mike Hanlon calls the others home for one last stand.

When the adult members of the club gather at the Jade de l’Orient restaurant, they laugh, share memories, and notice the absence of their friend Stanley.

The atmosphere becomes tense as they open fortune cookies and read the Chinese words that together form the haunting message “I guess Stanley couldn’t do it.” The united Losers then overcome their deepest fears in order to destroy the evil Pennywise.
