Opposition leader and former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday questioned the Congress government for its silence on providing jobs to the youth of the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, he said the government talks a lot every day, but when it comes to providing jobs to the youth, it remains silent.

“Despite a delay of more than a year and a half, the government has not yet announced the results of the exams already pending,” he accused.

He accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government of being quick to adjust the favourites but failing to show the same urgency in meeting the job demands of the youth.

“The youth of the state are concerned about the government’s slowness and its intention not to create jobs. Such actions are causing frustration among the youth who have been protesting for months. Since the government is playing with the future of the youth with its delaying tactics, they have no reason to ask for more time and keep this whole matter pending,” he said.

“The final results of the ongoing competitions must be announced without delay,” he demanded.

Jai Ram Thakur said: “When the frontrunners are to be reassessed, the cabinet meets twice a day. However, despite the youth of the state taking to the streets for months demanding the declaration of results, the government remains silent.”

The government should clearly tell the youth of the state when the new recruitments will be announced and when the results of the pending recruitments will be released, he asked.

“False statements will not work every time. The government has spent a third of its term lying. The youth are losing patience. Therefore, instead of looking for excuses, the government should find a concrete solution and provide job opportunities,” he said.

Raising serious doubts over the notification issued to cancel the appointment of veterinary pharmacists, he sought to know why the appointment letter issued after a year of waiting was withdrawn.

Highlighting the government’s lack of commitment to provide employment to the youth, he demanded that the state government clarify the reasons why such appointments were revoked within 24 hours of issuance of appointment orders and the errors that led to this decision.

He called for concrete action rather than excuses, urging the government to announce new recruitments and expedite the results of pending exams without further delay.
