YPJ declares readiness to fight ISIS in South Kurdistan, inspired by Kobani victories

Today, the YPJ, represented by General Command member Sozdar Dirik, spokesperson Roksan Mohamed, and dozens of female fighters, issued a statement in front of Naeem roundabout in central Raqqa, regarding reports that Turkey is transferring hundreds of ISIS mercenaries to Southern Kurdistan to fight the guerrillas.

The statement reads:

“Today, our regions and even the whole world are subjected to serious attacks of denial and extermination. Humanity is going through a major crisis. We are generally witnessing a broad front of genocide, rape and violence against women and peoples who demand freedom, justice and democracy.

The massacres committed by ISIS in Syria, Iraq, Şengal, Kurdistan and several European countries remain alive in the public consciousness and world opinion. The Arab, Kurdish, Christian and Yazidi populations, as well as all nationalities, are facing extermination attacks.

We, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), have resisted and fought courageously against the barbarity of ISIS mercenaries. Despite losing thousands of our comrades as martyrs, we have fought and resisted with determination and have succeeded in defeating ISIS, bringing security and stability to the people of the region.

Unfortunately, we now see that the Turkish occupation state, which attacks our regions and Southern Kurdistan daily, has paved the way for ISIS to establish itself in Zakho, Duhok and Amadiya to fight the guerrillas in the mountains of Zap, Metina and all regions of Southern Kurdistan.

Turkey is thus trying to annex and occupy Southern Kurdistan, as it did with Rojava, by incorporating it into its territory. Today, Turkey is seeking to annex and occupy Southern Kurdistan through the mercenaries of ISIS and the perfidious partnership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and its mercenaries, Zervan and Kolan.

The Islamic State, which has committed major massacres against people and brutally attacked and raped women, selling them in markets, is now based in our occupied regions of Afrin, Azaz, Al-Bab, Tal Abyad and Sere Kaniyê, armed and financed by Turkey, is sent from there to Kurdistan, the Middle East and various regions of Europe, Africa and Asia. It must therefore be understood that the transfer of ISIS mercenaries to South Kurdistan and Iraq aims to annex, occupy and commit new massacres.

The whole world knows that the guerrilla forces protected Şengal, Kerkuk, Makhmour, Hawler and all the Iraqi people from the terrorism of ISIS. So how can ISIS be transferred to these areas to fight the guerrillas of freedom? The people of Southern Kurdistan and Iraq know well that Barzani himself called the guerrilla forces to protect Erbil from the savagery of ISIS. So how can Barzani allow ISIS mercenaries to move to Southern Kurdistan to fight the guerrilla forces?

The honorable Peshmerga fought fascism and Saddam’s dictatorship for many years to protect their territory. That is why they must understand that today’s war pursues the same goal and, therefore, they must not accept the partnership of Barzani and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which opens its doors to ISIS mercenaries.

In Kobani, we, the honorable Peshmerga from Southern Kurdistan, and the international revolutionaries fought side by side against ISIS and succeeded in defeating it. Therefore, we must unite with the spirit of Kobani and protect all of Kurdistan, Iraq and the entire Middle East.

It is undeniable that dozens of political parties in Southern Kurdistan and Iraq have condemned this occupation and the Arab tribes of Iraq have expressed valid positions against it. However, this position must be transformed into a significant organization to stop this Turkish occupation movement and prevent the resurgence of ISIS. Therefore, the Iraqi central government and the government of the Southern Kurdistan Region must not be partners in this humanitarian crime. They must immediately expel ISIS mercenaries and the Turkish occupation army from these sacred lands.

The whole world must recognize this danger and know that the massacres committed in Iran, Russia, Paris, Germany, Africa and Europe are managed from Ankara under the direction of Erdogan and the Turkish secret services. The policy of extermination and occupation of the Turkish state proves that Erdogan’s mentality is that of the Islamic State, and that Erdogan exploits the terrorism of the Islamic State as a dangerous front against all the peoples of the Middle East and the world.

The whole world must therefore stand with the Kurdish guerrilla forces and take a firm stand against this global crime. The guerrilla forces have resisted ISIS in Şengal, Rojava, Kerkuk, Makhmour and Hawler and prevented further massacres in the region. To remain silent about this war is to accept further massacres and genocides in the Middle East and around the world.

Therefore we confirm and say:

– The people of Southern Kurdistan and Iraq must take a joint stand against the ISIS mercenaries and resist firmly to expel Turkish fascism from their lands.

– We call on all honorable Peshmerga forces to oppose the massacres of ISIS and the Turkish occupation and take their place at the forefront of resistance and struggle.

– We also call on the central government of Iraq and the regional government of Southern Kurdistan to immediately end this occupation.

– All the peoples of the region living together on these lands, especially the Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen peoples, must rise up with great determination and resist Erdogan’s Ottoman ambitions.

– All peoples of the world, from East to West, must fulfill their humanitarian duties and oppose ISIS terrorism and Erdogan’s fascism by taking a firm stand.

– All international institutions and forces must oppose the attacks of ISIS and the fascism of the Turkish occupation and demand the expulsion of these occupation forces from Southern Kurdistan. Otherwise, ISIS terrorism will spread everywhere again.

– The women’s front, an essential constructive force of life, must be the strongest in the face of these attacks. This is why we call on the women of South Kurdistan and Iraq in particular, and all women of the world, to rise up with one mind and one voice against all forms of occupation and extermination.

Ultimately, we, the YPJ forces, who fought ISIS for many years until its defeat, will not accept the return of ISIS mercenaries to these lands to kill humanity again. We will also take a stand at the appropriate time against these annexation and occupation attacks and reject the reestablishment of ISIS in the region in any form.

We, the Women’s Protection Units, together with our Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Syriacs, Turkmens, Chaldeans and Circassians, as well as our international fighters who came from different parts of the world to Rojava and who together ended the ISIS occupation, will protect all women and peoples with the spirit of the July 19 revolution, which is the revolution of women and all humanity. We are also ready to protect our people in South Kurdistan and Iraq if necessary. Wherever ISIS terrorism exists, we will be at the forefront of resistance and struggle.

Long live the unity and resistance of the peoples

Long live the unity and resistance of women

Long live the international revolutionary spirit

Down with fascism and treason

“No to the policies of annexation and occupation.”
