Mykel Williams shares message to Oklahoma fans about what to expect in the SEC

Two programs generated more intrigue than most at SEC Media Days. Oklahoma And Texas are new members and no matter who was standing at the podium, questions were asked about the Sooners and Longhorns. And despite not playing Oklahoma in the 2024 season, Georgia‘s Mykel Williams it was no different.

Williams shared a message to OU just weeks before its matchup against an SEC opponent. Between the games themselves and the away atmosphere ahead, Williams wants Norman residents to know how tough the SEC can be.

“I think Oklahoma has to expect loud fans, loud stadiums, tough, tough, physical opponents and just good games in the SEC,” Williams said at SEC Media Days. “It’s just tough in the SEC.”

It’s funny because sometimes Georgia can seem like a walk in the park for the SEC. Over the last three seasons, they have not lost a single game in conference play. Smart Kirby Alabama has built one of the best teams in college football and the results have been impressive, even against the sport’s best conference. Alabama is the only program to beat Georgia, winning two SEC championships in that span.

Williams has also had personal success, recording 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. An even bigger year is in store for the star rusher.

There were some tough games to play along the way, though. Williams remembers Auburn game last season, when Georgia narrowly escaped Jordan-Hare Stadium. Everyone around the SEC seems to be warning Texas and Oklahoma against playing on the Plains.

“I would say my toughest road game was probably against Auburn last year,” Williams said. “I went there, it was loud, they were really good at home, and when we played, it was a big game over there at Auburn.”

Oklahoma’s first SEC road game will be against Auburn. There have been two previous meetings between the two programs, but both were in Sugar Bowls, with neither setting foot in their respective college towns. September 28 will be historic for the program because Brent Venables goes head to head against Hugh Freeze.

The Sooners have had plenty of warnings about their presence at Auburn. Sure, there are more exciting stadiums planned for 2024 and even 2025. But while Williams admits Georgia has struggled with the environment at Jordan-Hare Stadium, no one is safe.
