Listen and Dance to Mexican Music at These 7 Spots in Los Angeles

Kick off the month right by listening to live Mexican music with a michelada. To keep the beer cocktail’s festive spirit alive, family-owned Michelada hosts a wild pop-up party on the first Friday of every month. The Lopez family (owners of Oaxaca restaurant Guelaguetza) started the tradition by hosting a series of cumbia parties at local breweries for people to try their product. But as the event grew in popularity, they began renting out the Beehive, an event space in South Los Angeles, to create a more immersive, festival-style experience.

On multiple stages, DJs and live bands play a wild mix of classic acts like Los Tucanas de Tijuana and newer bands like Fuerza Regida to packed audiences. Over the years, First Fridays has evolved into much more than a lively dance floor, featuring flash tattoo artists, hat vendors, a mechanical bull, and a selection of local Mexican food. As you explore the open-air venue, chances are you’ll run into their mascot, “the Miche Man,” a man dressed in a michelada piñata who’s responsible for keeping the vibes high.
