Former tennis legend shocked by Djokovic’s statement about Alcaraz and Sinner – Tennis Tonic

Former tennis legend Jimmy Connors believes Novak Djokovic tried to use reverse psychology by losing the Wimbledon final. The American admits he was surprised by Djokovic’s comments about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

It was the second consecutive year that Djokovic had lost the Wimbledon championship match to defending champion Alcaraz.

It was one of Djokovic’s worst performances in recent times, and he admitted after the match that he simply wasn’t as good as Sinner or Alcaraz.

At the post-Wimbledon press conference, Djokovic said: “Getting to the Wimbledon final gives me a big confidence boost. But I also feel like in a match against the best player in the world right now, apart from Jannik, they’re both the best players of the year and I don’t feel like I’m at that level. To have a chance of beating those guys in the latter stages of a Grand Slam or at the Olympics, I’m going to have to play a lot better than I did and feel a lot better than I did.”

But according to Connors, Djokovic’s admission that he can’t match Alcaraz and Sinner right now surprised him because it makes him feel weak. Connors shared his remarks on this and said: “I’ll never admit that. That’s just me. I think, deep down, I’d say I’m going to do whatever I can to try to stay up there and compete with them. And be as good as I can to match them, rather than say I’m not at their level.”

He added: “And against a Sinner or an Alcaraz, saying well, I’m not at your level; maybe it’s reverse psychology that he’s throwing at me, and if I win, I’m superhuman! Sometimes, we always talk about confidence and the mental aspect of it all; we don’t want everyone to feel defeated.”
