New AI platform Lumi will allow anyone to create comics or manga

Creating comics and manga is going to be easier than ever thanks to a new AI platform, Lumi, that aims to turn ideas into stories, FastCompany reported. As founder and CEO Colin Kaepernick said, Lumi will have the tool and other features that will allow anyone with a basic idea to create comics, graphic novels, or manga. This includes developing characters, creating dialogue, and creating appropriate images.

Once creators are satisfied with what Lumi has done with their ideas, they can then proceed to publish the stories. This can be in digital or print form. Lumi will also help creators find buyers for their works, thus serving as a one-stop solution for creating graphic novels and manga. From creating the comics to selling them, everything can be done through Lumi itself.

“We take care of all the logistics behind the scenes,” Kaepernick says. “We found that creators love to create and they want to focus on their work. Most of them don’t want to be entrepreneurs.”

Aside from the stories themselves, creators will also have the opportunity to create merchandise based on their stories. These can include mugs, t-shirts, posters, and more, featuring the characters or scenes from the stories. In addition to helping creators design these merchandise, Lumi will also be involved in other aspects such as manufacturing, selling, and shipping the merchandise.

“They can publish it, market it or monetize it anywhere else, which we think is a healthy relationship because it also pushes us to make sure we’re providing the best service to creators,” Kaepernick says.

However, Lumi is still in beta, which means it may be some time before it is ready to deliver the results it promises. Additionally, since it is an AI model, it would require data to train effectively. Kaepernick said Lumi could also use its own creations to train future AI models, but it would compensate the creators adequately for doing so.
