Sarawak Chief Minister has announced that public university i-CATS University College, which has an aerospace faculty, will receive RM300 million and a new beachfront campus

KUCHING, July 27 — Sarawak-owned higher education institution i-CATS University College will have a new campus to be developed on the beachfront in Trombol, about 40 kilometres from the city centre.

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the development of the new campus would cost about RM300 million and would be equipped with the latest modern learning technologies.

“At the same time, it will be equipped with a state-of-the-art laboratory to produce the right graduates who will make Sarawak a modern learning hub,” he said while launching the Sarawak Foundation Education Expo at the existing i-CATS campus at Jalan Stampin Timur here today.

He said the federal government had recently approved the establishment of a faculty of aerospace within the university, which would begin its inaugural semester next September.

According to him, the establishment of the new faculty means that Sarawak is preparing to produce the skilled workforce needed to enter the aerospace industry, especially in the production of aircraft parts and avionics equipment.

Abang Johari said Sarawak had also amended its land code, which expanded its jurisdiction to cover airspace and spectrum, in addition to venturing into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production to strengthen its commitment to the aerospace industry.

“In our effort to produce good graduates, we must consider all the prerequisites of our learning process. That is why we are organizing this exhibition so that you can identify the type of discipline you want to study and that must be in line with the development that is happening today,” he added. — Bernama
