Was a woman ‘shamed’ for asking for bread with salad?

A woman felt ‘humiliated’ by her server for asking for bread with an expensive salad and the moment was caught on camera.

In a viral video with 3.5 million views and over 226,000 likes, user Fiona Moriarty (@realprincessfiona) shared the interaction.

“When you wanted bread with your $28 salad but the waiter shames you and says ‘there’s a crouton,’” the clip’s overlaid text reads.

In the video, the woman sips a glass of lemon water while dining outside at a restaurant.

The alleged incident

After adding black pepper to her salad, she turns to her server. “Do you have any bread?” she asks.

“There’s some crust,” a woman replies off-camera.

The video then ends. In the comments section, several people thought the waiter may have been confused by how the woman asked for bread.

Was it just a misunderstanding?

“Can I have some bread, please?” versus “Is there any bread?” wrote user FabioTheFish.

“I think she thought you asked ‘Is there bread’ so she said ‘No there isn’t, there’s a crouton,'” wrote user Megan Ingle. “It’s just a simple misunderstanding on both sides.”

“I think she just misunderstood what you were asking,” echoed user Imani.

However, one commenter pointed out the exorbitant cost of the salad.

“There aren’t enough people talking about why the salad is $28,” wrote user Arynah Saga.

Using TikTok to report bad service

TikTok users regularly use the platform to report servers for poor service.

An IHOP customer has gone viral after she claimed a racist waitress refused to serve her guests because they were black. A woman also claimed she was humiliated while dining at a restaurant for ordering soup and salad.

However, the platform is most often used by servers who have had bad experiences with their clients.

For example, one waitress reported charging guests for lemonades after they ordered water, lemon, and sugar to make their own drinks. Another waitress went viral after criticizing customers who make reservations but don’t include their children in the “people” list.
