Funko Offers Custom Deadpool and Wolverine Figures

Funko Offers Custom Deadpool and Wolverine Figures

If there are three things I love, it’s toy collecting, Comic-Con, and Marvel Studios. That’s why I jumped at the chance for a very cool opportunity that combines all three.

If you’ve been living under a rock, Deadpool and Wolverine is coming out this weekend, one of the biggest Marvel movies in years. And to celebrate the opening weekend in its own way, Funko has allowed fans at San Diego Comic-Con to step into the shoes of one of two characters. It’s a massive operation that takes place on the show floor, and while it’s extremely busy, it’s also incredibly fun.

Once you get to the front of the line, a special QR code directs you to a site where you log into your Funko account and choose which character you want to be: Deadpool or Wolverine. From there, you choose your body type, skin tone, hairstyle, and a few other features to make the Pop as close to you as possible. Then you pick out a few accessories, like the Comic-Con-exclusive TVA TemPad, pay $50 each (a sum that Funko reimbursed for the media coverage of the experience), and boom, you’re good to go. A few hours later, an email pops up, you head back to the booth, and voila. You’re a Deadpool or Wolverine Funko Pop.

While I did encounter a few technical issues during my experience, mostly due to the insane strain on the WiFi, the Funko team was great at troubleshooting and making sure I got exactly the Pop I wanted. Meanwhile, a peek at the back of the booth revealed boxes and boxes of different pieces, almost like a Funko Pop graveyard, as an army of employees worked to assemble them.

The result? It’s pretty cool.
