In a statement, the TFPC added, “Based on allegations against Mr Vishal, who was the head of the Tamil Film Producers Council from 2017 to 2019, the Tamil Nadu government appointed a special officer in 2019. After analysing the accounts, the auditor’s report revealed that the funds of the association were misused, resulting in a loss of around Rs 12 crore, including Rs 7.5 crore from the bank deposits of the council and Rs 5 crore from the income and expenditure of 2017-19. Despite multiple notices to Mr Vishal to return the misused funds, he has not responded.”

Vishal, who was elected as the chairman of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) in 2017, was replaced. In 2023, he was replaced by Murali Ramasamy of Sri Thenandal Films as the chairman of the TFPC. The council has now ordered an inquiry into Vishal for allegedly misusing the council’s funds.

To counter their allegations, Vishal publicly posted a tweet targeting the council.

“Don’t you know that this is a collective decision that includes your team member, “Mr. Kathiresan,” and that the funds were used for the welfare works of the elderly/distressed members of the producers’ council, including providing education, medical insurance, and basic welfare during the festivals that benefited the council members and their families?

“Do your job well and there are so many things that need to be done for the industry. Double taxation, theatre maintenance charges and so many things that need to be addressed. Vishal will always continue to make films. Try to stop me, all you so-called producers who have never produced and will never produce films. Think progressively,” Vishal wrote.
