24 Team GB stars to watch at the Paris Olympics – including Tom Daley, Adam Peaty and Sky Brown

24 Team GB stars to watch at the Paris Olympics – including Tom Daley, Adam Peaty and Sky Brown

Georgina Brayshaw, 30, rowing

Event: Women’s Quadruple

When: July 27 (preliminaries), July 31 (final)

A rookie Olympic athlete who was left in a coma as a teenager following a horse riding accident.

Brayshaw, who has been paralysed on her left side for a year, began rowing in her second year at university. An Olympic medal, which is highly likely, would be a remarkable reward for her perseverance after also being ruled out of the Tokyo Games.

Joe Clarke, 31, canoe slalom

Events: Men’s single kayak, kayak cross

When: July 30-August 1 (singles), August 2-5 (cross)

“Hard times don’t last, tough people do.”

That upbeat quote became Clarke’s mantra after the reigning Olympic champion was overlooked for Tokyo 2020 despite his consistently good form.

After moving past the controversy, he turns to the story of ultimate redemption..

Carl Hester, 57, rider

Event: Dressage

When: August 3 (team final), August 4 (individual final)

When Hester competed in her first Olympics – in Barcelona in 1992 – much of the British team had not even been born.

But with age comes more pressure, he says. The oldest member of the Great Britain team helped the nation win a historic first equestrian medal in 2012 and he hopes to extend that success to a fourth Games appearance.
